FAQs

Why do we need a 202020 Vision?

Green spaces are vital to sustainable urban living, and as our populations continue to grow, the role of trees and gardens will become increasingly important. Not only do they look great, they’re good for our health and productivity. They help reduce pollution, create oxygen and their shade protects us from sun damage and heat stress. The 202020 Vision is to see 20% more green space in urban areas by 2020, and you can help. By joining the cause you can make sure green spaces aren’t overlooked in favour of concrete and bitumen.

How do I get involved?

Share your project with us: We seek all levels of projects, which demonstrate green space leadership and embody a commitment to improving the way green spaces are valued and enjoyed.  It can be anything from a small park tree planting project to a city high rise green wall initiative. Whatever the project is, we will map it and lend support to help create best practice in green urban areas.

Become our member: We seek member organisations
from government, construction, design, health, sustainability and academia. If you share the vision, share the badge.

Do I have to be a member to add a project?

No, anyone can add a project. If you have a new or recent green space which is indoor, outdoor, large or small, we’d love to hear about it.

What is green space?

Green space is any land, which is partly or completely covered with grass, trees, shrubs, or other vegetation. A green space can be anything from community parks to rooftop gardens.

Why do we need more green space?

The benefits of urban green spaces are numerous.  They reduce city temperatures in the harsh Australian sun, they absorb rainwater runoff and create a tranquil place for people to relax (plus they can be utterly gorgeous).

Why join 202020 Vision when I’m already doing my own projects?

You are? Fantastic, you sound like our kind of person. By sharing your project with us we can showcase it to the world, inspiring more green spaces, funding and support, which could see you in charge of more projects down the line. Plus, your partnership will give you access to an impressive research library and green space resources.

I'm a council, how can I start measuring green space?

iTree is an online tool that helps to measure the value of your green space. iTree is free to use, and we’ll provide complimentary training and support for all your future projects. Download for free at itreetools.org.
