About the project

Chippendale Green is a four million dollar, 6,400m² green space at the heart of Central Park. The newly opened landscape invites the community into what was previously a walled off brewery, closed to the public for over 150 years.
Chippendale Green is a four million dollar, 6,400m² green space at the heart of Central Park. The newly opened landscape invites the community into what was previously a walled off brewery, closed to the public for over 150 years.

The majority of the park is lawn, ideal for ball games, Frisbee, dog walking and free play. To compliment this a range of formal and informal seating is fanned amongst large trees, ranging from sunken bleachers, granite stones and long timber benches adjoining the communal barbecue area.

Paved footpaths and cycleways add connectivity from Chippendale to Broadway. Alongside this a gently cascading water feature runs from North to South. Not only does it provide a beautiful shimmering light from the sun and city lights, it's a wonderful place to cool your feet in summer or for kids to paddle in during picnics.

At the heart of Chippendale Green is the striking and mesmerising kinetic artwork, Halo, by local artists Jennifer Turpin and Michaelie Crawford. Halo is an extraordinary 12 metre diameter golden ring gently spinning atop a 13 metre tall spire, which defines the heart of the Central Park precinct.
