Street Upgrade for Collett Street

By City of Melbourne

About the project

Collett street was earmarked for tree planting as part of the City of Melbourne's Urban Forrest Strategy.
Collett St in Kensington was one of the hottest places in Melbourne over summer, but not anymore. The street was earmarked for tree planting as part of the City of Melbourne's Urban Forrest Strategy.

Large areas of paved surfaces and footpaths have now been thoughtfully planted to provide a welcomed canopy of shade.

The tree of choice, following a vote from local residents and businesses, was the Trident Maple (Acer bugerianum), a stunning deciduous variety which will provide cool shade in summer and let the sun shine in during winter. To add to this spectacle is the Pin Oak (Quercus palustris), a feature tree which has been planted at the intersection points. All in all this project should greatly improve the character and livability of the street for generations to come.
