About the project

Green Square is in the process of undergoing a huge sustainable metro village project. The $1.7 Billion plan will include 3 new parks, a library, and cinemas, as well as residential, commercial and retail facilities.
The industrial site over Green Square Station is being transformed into a sustainable metro village. The village will incorporate 8950sqm of green space making up around %40 of the total project site.

Green Square Town Centre Park will be powered by an ecological engine that delivers recycled storm water and renewable energy to the site.

A 250 ha catchment will send water directly beneath the town centre which will be cleaned through natural bio filtration (the removal of organic gases and volatile organic compounds by converting them to carbon dioxide and water) aand stored in a large tank where it will be used to supply 90% of the towns water needs.

A reduction in pollution and an increase in ecological energy are a couple of the numerous benefits this park will have on the community.

Although the plan is only in the concept design stage is has already won the 2008 AILA NSW award for Planning in Landscape Architecture.

When the project is finished in 2015, the metro village will hold 5500 residents and 7000 workers making it the largest project of its kind in Australia.
