About the project

A road designed around a landscape.
Transformed into an attractively landscaped avenue, this major road development has undergone a dramatic public makeover.
Trees have been planted, water basins have been retained and it even has a cycle path.

When extensive upgrades were made in 2011, the environment was made a serious priority. Every design element of the road takes into consideration the nature around it. Landscaping forms a huge part of this major road with 185,000 trees and shrubs planted creating 10 hectares of green space.
Remnant trees were retained where possible and several poplar trees were planted to recreate the avenue character of the road.

A comprehensive site analysis was done to ensure to the planting strategy would maximise the green space, along with soil testing to make sure it was ideal for tree planting. As a result, many of the trees planted were indigenous species, requiring less water usage and maintainance.

There was a section of the roadway no longer in use so it was transformed into a pedestrian/cycle path with an avenue of trees planted along the pathway.

Needless to say this project has had a significant impact on the people who use the road, giving them something beautiful to look at as they drive along, and inspiration to appreciate and respect the environment.
