What is it?

Unreliable rain, infertile or contaminated soil, pests and diseases. Sometimes it seems nature is its own biggest enemy.

While some of these problems are location-specific, others apply more generally. For example, the unique growing conditions of indoor plants and the perceived likelihood of them dying in some cases creates an unfortunate perception that they are a waste of money.

To overcome this issue, we seek to agree on some of the key natural challenges in the urban environment and share ways of overcoming them; for example through species selection, soil management practices, water harvesting, maintenance and technology.

"One of the biggest barriers to people putting in green walls is really understanding the how much is it actually going to cost... and exactly what benefits am I going to get out of it."

Lucy Sharman, City of Sydney
