community attitudes

What is it?

People love trees and plants but…not when the shade falls on their windows, not when trees drop things on their cars, not when they have to sweep up the leaves.

Negative perceptions and complaints about plants and trees can sometimes make more green space a politically charged issue.

How can we influence and encourage people to help shift opinions about the negative aspects versus the positive aspects of trees?

Overcoming this issue depends on identifying successful examples of changing community attitudes toward trees and plants, then socialising them.

Interestingly, more established suburbs tend to show support for trees more than developing areas or new housing estates.
